Things I love about the trailer for Steven “God” Soderbergh’s Contagion:
- All that unusual, striking mise-en-scene, especially the weird angles on the close-ups of Jude Law, which make him look like a talking head in an eerily distracted documentary
- Damon’s creepy reaction to news of his wife’s death
- “Someone doesn’t have to weaponize the bird flu. The birds are doing that.”
- Blink-style editing rhythms with quick fades in between flashes of terrifying apocalyptic imagery
- Presence of John Hawkes; vocal presence of Bryan Cranston
- Final shot is face-masking the camera, indicating that not even the audience is safe from the plague
- Literally everything else about it
